A BIG THANKS TO ALL

The 5th “Beat the Banana!” Charity Run

Beat the Banana

The 5th annual WCRF HK Beat the Banana! Charity Run took place on a lovely sunny morning on 31st January. Close to 800 runners aged from 8 months to 70 years old shared a morning of great fun and energy for cancer prevention along the beautiful Tsimshatsui waterfront.

Thanks to the generous support from all the sponsors, supporting partners, participants and volunteers, the event has raised more than HK$420,000 for WCRF HK's vital cancer prevention work.

Congratulations to all the winners! Mr. Thomas Kiprotich and Ms. Ying-Suet Leung, who completed the 6km elite run in 18 minutes and 30 seconds, and 21 minutes and 31 seconds respectively, will represent WCRF HK to further compete in the British version of the Beat the Banana! Run to be held in London's Hyde Park on 13 May by WCRF UK.

At the 3km fun run, champions Mr. Brendan Kean and Ms. Ka-Yan Tong successfully beat the giant running banana in 9 minutes and 18 seconds, and 12 minutes and 9 seconds respectively.

This year's top individual fundraiser was once again our long-time supporter, Mr. Wayne Milano, whose team, the Walking Banana swept away the top team fundraising prize with over HK$100,000 donation!

12-year-old Mr. Bosco Yu, 3-year-old Mr. Eric Mok and 10-year-old Mr. Angus Lee proudly crowned themselves as the top three Young Philanthropists of the event, with United Italian Corp., (HK) Ltd. winning the Biggest Team award with their huge team made up of 67 runners!

See a full list of winners. Enjoy some of the event highlights too on our photo album.

WCRF HK would like to thank all the runners for their participation and fundraising efforts. Special thanks are given to all the sponsors and supporters, as well as all the volunteers, who had contributed tremendously to the success of the event.

Let's stay physically active and healthy, and see you all again in 2011!
