Scientific research points us to the fact that the type of foods we eat plays a key role in reducing – or increasing - our risk of developing cancer. By making simple lifestyle changes such as eating more plant-based foods, increasing consumption of fruit and vegetables, taking regular exercise, and keeping control of our body weight, we can reduce our risk of cancer by up to one third!
Now in its 6th year, Fruity Friday is a popular annual fundraising campaign staged by WCRF HK to promote the importance of a healthy diet - and in particular, the consumption of fruits – to maintain all round good health for protection against many common cancers. Funds raised will help support the vital research and education programmes by WCRF HK into cancer prevention.
A special focus of Fruity Friday is on corporate employees and their health in the workplace. Following the recommendations set out in the WCRF/AICR Policy Report: Policy and Action for Cancer Prevention, employers are encouraged to take the lead in facilitating a healthy workplace for staff for all-round good health as well as enhanced staff loyalty and increased productivity.
As such, corporations around Hong Kong are now invited to join Fruity Friday by buying employees a healthy breakfast/lunch/fruity snack or organising a fruity tea party on 25 June (Friday) as a first step to show that they care about their staff’s health in the workplace.
Fruity Friday is one of the health-promoting and fundraising activities during the Cancer Prevention Week (25 to 30 June 2010) of (WCRF HK). Activities of the Cancer Prevention Week include Fruity Friday, the President Cup & 25th Creation Cup Asian Open Dance Championships 2010 and ‘Colours of Hope Research Fund’ Fundraising Gala organized by the Creation Dancing Academy (Sunday, 27 June) which promotes dancing as a sport whilst raising fund for WCRF HK to support research for cancer prevention research, and the newly introduced Move More Day (Wednesday, 30 June).
All participants of Fruity Friday and Move More Day will have a chance to win one year’s free supply of seasonal fresh fruits delivered to your doorsteps by Frutodor simply by making a minimum donation of HK$25 to WCRF HK. Other incentives include complimentary health talks by WCRF HK’s registered dietitian, free dance classes sponsored by Creation Dancing Academy and many more! More details on What You Will Get .
